 Hi,

We use NGINX and have an issue doing the Joomla update with Akeeba CMS Update.

We get the following message:

" There was an error communicating with the Joomla! package extraction script administrator/components/com_joomlaupdate/restore.php. This usually indicates a permissions issue making this file unreadable to the web server or a server configuration (e.g. .htaccess file directives) issue blocking access to this file."

Tried clicking on "Add exception to Admin Tools" button, but it does nothing.

I also noticed that the exception is actually already in our setup.

Help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Andrew

doing the Joomla update with Akeeba CMS Update.

Akeeba CMS Update has been discontinued since March 2016. No support is provided for it as we announced 14 months ago. Also, I can tell you for sure that it doesn't support Joomla! 3.5.1 or later. If you were using it to update Joomla! I strongly recommend going to Extensions, Database and click on the Fix button to apply everything that CMS Update missed.

Can you please describe in more detail what you do and where you get the error? What you wrote is too vague.

You replied to me by email. Please don't do that. File your replies on our site, otherwise I might miss your reply. In any case, you wrote:

I go into Joomla Admin, Components, and click on Joomla Update. Then click to update, where after we receive a 403 in the joomla Admin area

So, you are not getting the 403 in Joomla! Update. The update works. After Joomla has updated you get a 403 in Joomla's Control Panel. This seems to be irrelevant with Admin Tools. Also, it sounds unlikely to me that this is the case, so I'll hazard a guess.

If you meant to say that the 403 happens INSIDE Joomla! Update, exactly when you try to update I need one more clarification: does it happen before it starts downloading the update or after? Before means that the problem is unrelated to Admin Tools. You need to double check you are logged in a Super User, not as a plain old Administrator. If it happens after the download, when it starts to extract the update, and you see the 403 in a dialog then we can do something about it. Anything else would be an issue with Joomla! we cannot help with.

Sorry about that, I was driving and wanted to answer quick. See attached for more info..

It is as if it does not have rights or if it is blocked by something e.g. Admin Tools etc... I'm really not sure. It happens as soon as I click 'Updaate' and it says it has not 'access'.

It only makes sense to get to the URL I see in the second screenshot if you use the Upload & Update tab. Anything else seems to be some kind of bad caching in the browser or something broken in Joomla! Update (I haven't run into such a thing but who knows).

An easy workaround is this:
  • Go to Joomla! Update.
  • Click on the update URL link to download the update ZIP file.
  • Extract the update ZIP file locally.
  • Upload all of the extracted files to your site.
  • Log into your site's backend and go to Extensions, Database.
  • Click the Fix button.

This is functionally equivalent to doing the update through Joomla! Update.

Hi,

Further to this, it worked doing it manually... However I now want to update again to j3.7.2, and now we get this error:

AJAX loading error: error

Any ideas? It seems to be something blocking access to /administrator/components/com_joomlaupdate/restore.php

And this in Developer Tools Console:

Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 502 () /administrator/components/com_joomlaupdate/restore.php

Thanks,

Andrew

Hello,

I'm stepping in since Nicholas at the moment is not available.
If you can't reach the restore.php file, it means that there are some server issues (maybe wrong permissions?). You should review that file permissions and ask your host.
