I have about 10 sites running Admin Tools successfully but have had to disable two of them because the secret URL would never work.

I disabled them by changing the main.php file to main_disable.php in the plugins/system/admintools/admintools folder.

One of those sites is now selectively failing to allow event registration using DT Register. I'm at a loss as to what the problem is - I have over 20 other client sites running it just fine (including those running Admin Tools), and many people can register on this site - but others cannot.

I conferred with DTHDevelopment several months ago on this, but they could not find the cause (I've submitted a new inquiry to them to see if they might have anything new to help).

So far, all I've done is to replace the .htaccess Admin Tools version with the default .htaccess. I'm awaiting a response from the customer to see if that helped.

But I'd still like to completely uninstall Akeeba Admin Tools from this site because of the secret URL issue, and maybe reinstall it at a later date after this DT Register issue is resolved.

I could not find anything in the documentation or on your website for uninstalling - maybe it's simply uninstalling it from the Manage Extensions, but I thought I had read somewhere that it's not recommended that we do that - I don't want to make things any worse.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Update: Customer just responded that changing the .htaccess to the Joomla default did not resolve this, so I need to pursue removing Admin Tools to see if that fixes it.

Thank you,

Ernie,

Replacing the .htaccess file with the standard Joomla! file is indeed the first step for diagnosing the issue. We now know the problem is not in the .htaccess file. When you rename the main.php file, you have completely disabled Admin Tools Web Application Firewall. It doesn't look like your issue is caused by Admin Tools.

When it works for some users and doesn't work for others, look at GeoIP blocking. The country identifiers for the IP addresses are not completely reliable and the IP addresses can change location as unused addresses are traded and sold between companies. With all the IP4 addresses gone, this will only get worse.

And finally, to uninstall Admin Tools, go to Manage Extensions and uninstall "Admin Tools package". That will uninstall all of the components, plugins, etc.

I'm still having problems with the website, so I uninstalled the Admin Tools Package as another step in trying to isolate the issue.

The uninstall was successful, but there was a notice that 1 extension was not removed - something about FOF - I apologize for not copying the exact message - I tried to filter by "FOF" and of course lost the message.

I'm running Akeeba Backup, too, so I'm not sure if it might have been a shared extension that does not need to be removed.

Thank you,
Ernie

Once upon a time...

The FOF folder is a core Joomla! library and must not be removed.

If you have an f0f folder (note zero), that is an obsolete version of the library no longer used by Akeeba products. It is possible that another third party extension could be using it. You may want to rename it and see if something breaks before uninstalling it.

The FOF30 library is the current version of the library used by Akeeba products. Both Admin Tools and Akeeba Backup use that library, so if you have either installed, you need it.

The End. :-)
