I just installed the admin tools

went to password protect administrator

I entered the new user name and password

I get an error 404 when I try to go to www.mysite/administrator

You can undo the password protection by deleting the .htaccess and .htpasswd files in the /administrator folder, NOT THE ROOT.

Not all servers support the password protect function. The real error is a 500, the 404 is thrown when it tries to find the "pretty" error page for the 500 error.
