 Hi,
Since a few days I cannot access my administrator backend, because after passing the secret url the site asks for the password that protect the administrator account. I haven't changed anything as far as I can remember, but it will not accept my password anymore

My subdomain where I run my trial site gives no problem at all.

So, I tried to disable admintools according instructions in the support forum, but to my surprise I still arrive at the password protect administrator login field, which I cannot pass because it will not accept my password.

Please advise what I should do to get access to my admin backend

Many thanks
Wim

Wim,

If you are getting a user ID and password prompt from Apache, you can disable that by deleting the .htaccess file in the /administrator folder, not the root.

You can set the password up again in Admin Tools if you want to.

Hi Dale,

marveloous fast reply! great!

but
just deleting that file?
isn't it of any use then?

what do you mean by set the password up again in Admin Tools?

If I delete the .htaccess file do I completely remove the password protect admin, and when I set it up again the .htaccess file returns?

sorry for the ignorant questions

Hi Dale,

of course I proceeded according your instructions, and had a look at the .htaccess; and for some reason it had added the subdomain to its string

set up the protection again and now it looks good, because the new .htaccess is without the subdomain in the string

quite strange, but it seems to be fixed now

thanks again

I'm sorry, I was too slow. I wanted to see exactly what the .htaccess file contained, so I had to password protect one of my sites.

I'm glad you got it working!
