I have a shared hosting account with 5 sites (1 joomla included). The 4 NON-joomla sites have the following text at the end of the htaccess file. All of them seem to be changed at the same timestamp.

<Files 403.shtml>
order allow,deny
allow from all
</Files>

deny from 216.170.118.18
deny from 216.170.118.16
deny from 104.232.36.157
deny from 216.170.126.108
deny from 216.170.126.17
deny from 216.170.118.140
deny from 216.170.115.141
deny from 216.170.118.17

Could it be that the admin tools somehow made those changes as a security measure?

No, Admin Tools DOES NOT generate this kind of .htaccess code. I assume that something on your host does that, e.g. some kind of IP auto-blocking at the server level.

Hello

Indeed I could see those exact IP addresses from the "IP Deny manager" interface and I removed them. I do not remember entering them there but I cannot be 1000% sure either.

I had to remove the following text by hand:

<Files 403.shtml>
order allow,deny
allow from all
</Files>

Thank you very much.
