Hi, just want to enter my download ID to a site i just recovered using akeeba kickstart, everything works great, updated everything but I copy/pasted my download ID like 10 times and I still get the message to enter it. I dont get any error messages, just the same message to enter it. I know how to copy and paste and ive done this a couple times already in the past. thanks for your help.

Hi, ive just been banned from accessing my website : Admin Query String, is this thing related to me copy/pasting my download ID too many times? Im not stressed out about this because i know how to fix it but i just wanted to let you know what was happening and dont know why this happened? Thanks again.

Please make sure the PHP module mbstring is installed and enabled. That is the most common cause of this problem.

If mbstring is there, how are you entering the Download ID? Please go to Options and enter it on that page. We've had a couple of reports of problems entering it in the popup box but it works under Options.

I would not expect the Download ID issue to cause a lockout for admin query string. The first run wizard in Admin Tools will set up a secret URL parameter but that usually locks users out right away, this sounds like an IP ban. Do you have a secret parameter set up and are you using it in your URL?

Hi, you were right, I was not using the secret url parameter. The reason why I was not using it because before this time, this function didnt work for all 3 of my websites even though it was enabled. I'm glad to see it working now for this site. Could this present a problem for the other sites, what should I do?

As for the mbstring module, sorry I am not a very knowledgeable web developer. I went into modules and made a search both in the site options and administrator options but didnt find any mention of an mbstring module, is this what you mean or am I looking in a completely different place?

As for your question where are you putting the download id, it is right on the admin tools home page (the second you click on components/admin tools. tryed it again today but it still doesnt work.

thanks again,

Jonathan

Jonathan,

Davide just replied to another ticket on the same topic. Are you using the Joomla! cache in Global Settings? If so, turn it off and try to enter the Download ID again. With the cache enabled, the popup can't tell that you have already entered it.

Hi,

Disabling cache resolved the problem instantly, thank you.

Regarding my 2 other websites that the secret url parameter doesnt work, should i do the quick setup wizard again?

dlb
You can also access the secret parameter under Web Application Firewall, Configure WAF, on the first tab.

Hi, thank you very much for your help, it helped me a lot. I was in the configure WAF section like you suggested and I wanted to change the administrator secret url parameter, I saw the big warning under the change the administrator login directory, that it could log me out permanently. So, just to be on the safe side, theyre is no problem activating the secret url parameter right? (lowercase letters and 0-9 numbers)

dlb
These are two completely different options. The secret URL parameter works consistently among different servers.

Changing the name of the administrator folder is an option that we found did not work on some servers. We removed it from Admin Tools but customer demand made us add it back. That led to the warning.
