If I add my template to the htaccess file: templates/your_template_name_here will that be enough to satisfy Google, or do I have to add the following to the robots.txt file ?
Allow: *.css
Allow: *.js

Hello Alexander,

you have to edit your robots.txt file and remove the following line:
Disallow: /templates/

That should do the trick.

Hi Davide, there is no template to remove in the txt file:
User-agent: *
Disallow: /administrator/
Disallow: /bin/
Disallow: /cache/
Disallow: /cli/
Disallow: /components/
Disallow: /includes/
Disallow: /installation/
Disallow: /language/
Disallow: /layouts/
Disallow: /libraries/
Disallow: /logs/
Disallow: /modules/
Disallow: /plugins/
Disallow: /tmp/

Read this article here for their suggestion: https://magazine.joomla.org/issues/issue-august-2015/item/2815-googlebot-cannot-access-css-and-js-files-on

Ok, so you only need to add your template to the htaccess exception list and you should be fine.
