Please note that if there are no added or modified files compared to the last run of the PHP File Change Scanner no report will be generated. If you believe this happens in error please follow the troubleshooting instructions below.

First please go to Components, Admin Tools, PHP File Change Scanner and click the Purge File Cache button.

If this doesn't work please go to Components, Admin Tools, PHP File Change Scanner and click the blue Configure button. Set the following.

File types to be scanned:
php
phps
php3
inc

"Excluded folders not to be scanned" and "Excluded files not to be scanned": leave them empty

Minimum execution time: 1
Maximum execution time: 5
Runtime bias: 75

There is a malware on the site - and I need to find all files that has the word: $GLOBALS in them how do I do that - thanks

The super simple way would be take a backup with Akeeba Backup Core (free), extract it locally with Akeeba eXtract Wizard (also free) and use your operating system's search on the files. For example, on Windows you can press F3 on Windows Explorer to start searching the contents of the files in the current directory. On Mac OS X you can do so by pressing CMD-F in Finder (and make sure you select the second option from the Search toolbar, i.e. the name of the current folder). Both options will return the names and locations of files matching your search criteria.

If you are a command line geek like yours truly you can use the standard GNU tool grep from the root of your site like this:
grep -Ilrs "\$GLOBALS" *

Please note that you will find several legitimate files containing this expression including the following:
  • components/com_finder/views/search/view.html.php
  • libraries/f0f/input/jinput/input.php
  • libraries/joomla/application/daemon.php
  • libraries/joomla/filesystem/folder.php
  • libraries/joomla/input/input.php
  • libraries/legacy/request/request.php
  • libraries/vendor/joomla/application/src/AbstractDaemonApplication.php
  • libraries/vendor/joomla/input/src/Input.php
  • libraries/vendor/joomla/input/src/Json.php
