I upgraded to the latest CMS Joomla including Akeeba backup and Admin tools and after installing Admin Tools, I can no longer access the /administrator section of my site:

www.lightontherock.org/administrator

It just redirects me to the front of the site. I modified the /lightontherock.org/plugins/system/admintools/admintools/main.php and renamed main.php to main-d.php and I can log in, otherwise I get this message:

You are a spammer, hacker or an otherwise bad person.

I tried whitelisting my IP but that didn't help. Please advise, I just spent almost $100 updating the extensions. My username is Redhyper, thanks.

Apparently you enabled the "Administrator query string parameter" without noticing. This is why accessing /administrator was triggering security exceptions and redirecting you to the frontpage of the site. You did that many times in a row and the automatic IP block you have set up in Admin Tools kicked in and kicked you out of your site.

Don't worry. It happens to everybody. It's even happened to me, several times.

Please follow the instructions in https://www.akeebabackup.com/documentation/troubleshooter/atwafissues.html to rename main.php as you already did.

Now log in to the back-end of your site.

Go to Components, Admin Tools. See the big, red "Unblock my IP" button above the icons for Admin Tools features? Click on it. This will prevent any more "You are a spammer, hacker or an otherwise bad person." messages for your IP address.

Now, let's fix the problem that locked you out of your site.

Go to Web Application Firewall, Configure WAF and click on the Basic Protection Features tab. The fourth line reads "Administrator secret URL parameter". Remove all contents of the text box next to it and click on Save & Close.

Now renamed main-d.php back to main.php

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply. Where do I find this parameter:

"Administrator query string parameter".

I whitelisted my IP but when I renamed the file back to main.php I am still redirected to the main site, thanks.

Scott,

Nicholas is not online right now. The next to last paragraph in his reply tells you how to clear the secret parameter.
