Hi,

I don't want to insert my download ID, but unfortunately it seems like until I do that, I will having this big box asking for it every single time I go to Admin Tools or Akeeba Backup.

Please let me know how I can make it go away without typing my Download ID into it.

This box is intentionally there, to remind our users of the fact that they need to enter their Download ID to update Akeeba Backup.

If you REALLY want to break automatic updates try entering 0000:00000000000000000000000000000000 in the box. Please note that this is obviously NOT GOING TO WORK if you ever try to update the extension automatically.

I suppose that you are installing the software on one of your clients' sites and you don't want them to see your Download ID. This is exactly why we have Add-on Download IDs. Log in to akeebabackup.com site and go to My, Add-on Download IDs. Create as many download IDs as you want and use one of them on each of your client's sites. When a client stops paying you you can come back to our site's Add-on Download IDs page and disable or erase the Download ID you used with that client's site.

Please note that I have temporarily flagged your user account to decline any future support on any issue concerning updates since you have explicitly asked me how to break updates on your sites. If you choose to use Add-on Download IDs let me know so I can unflag your user account.

Wrong assumption, I just don't like anything related to automated updates. I like to do them manually and only after I took the necessary steps (i.e. backups).

I asked you to help me take out the "insert download ID" box, and consequently to prevent automated updates.
Are you saying that with the solution you provided I won't be able to update manually?

PS: I get the feeling I struck a nerve, I don't mean any disrespect to you and obviously your products are great thus why I decided to buy the pro version instead of the free "core" ones. I don't need the pro versions, I just wanted to support you.
Like I said, I just don't like automated updates.

Let me clarify that "automatic" updates are anything but. You only get a reminder automatically. Installing an update requires you to go ahead and do something yourself (click the update button).

Since you chose to not enter a valid Download ID using the Extensions, Manage, Update to update Akeeba Backup will not work. Likewise for getting to the same page with any other way including but not limited to: clicking on the link in the update email; clicking on the update notification in Akeeba Backup itself; clicking the update notification in your Joomla! control panel. All of these methods rely on the Download ID being provided to download the update package.

The only update method that will work for you is a manual update, as described in our documentation. Clarification: manual update means that you need to come to our site, download the ZIP package of the new version, then go to your site's Extensions > Manage and install it.

That's why I said we won't provide support to you regarding updates. Since you chose to enter the wrong Download ID trying to update using any way other than manually downloading and installing the ZIP package yourself will fail.

I hope that clarifies a few things :)
