 Hello,

I hope you can help with this.

I have just (last couple of days) stood up an instance of AWS EC2 AMI M4.Large.

I then subscribed to your deluxe package and was very surprised to be told that my PHP version is old and out of support by your component.

I have tried to follow online guidance such as 'sudo yum remove httpd*' but this reports no package marked for removal.

'sudo remove php*' does report it would remove things.

'sudo install php55' does seem to suggest it would work but I do not want to do as I believe an httpd update is also required?

I have command line access.

I realise this is not an area directly related to your products but I need to know how to make your products happy and working.

Can you advise how I may upgrade my AWS instance to the latest versions of PHP and Apache?

Thanks,

Tony

Normally we don't give such advice but I'll try my best. The Amazon EC2 instance type doesn't tell me much. It only describes the "hardware" (yeah, virtual, but still). It does not give me any information on the operating system. Quite obviously you're using Linux and I suppose you must be using CentOS or RHEL.

Problem: I am an Ubuntu guy :( Last time I used an RPM-based distro was with Mandriva Linux back in 2011.

Your best bet is to figure out the CentOS/RHEL version you are using and then searching for instructions on installing a newer PHP version. I think this might help: http://www.unixnewbie.org/how-to-check-centos-version-via-command-line/

Installing PHP 5.5 will probably require something similar to this: https://webtatic.com/packages/php55/ This page comes with instructions. I would leave out the opcode caching unless you know what you're doing and understand that you need to reset it every time you update something (and that some software might not work properly with an opcode cache).

I hope that helps!
