 Hi Nicholas,

I'm trying to install Admin Tools Pro 2.6.2 but after I select Enable automatic Joomla! update emails and etc + press Accept Mandatory Information and apply settings the sustem returns the following error message; fsockopen(): unable to connect to :80 (php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known)

Admin Tool is accessible after the error but I'm not sure if I should trust it...Not sure if there's any co-relation but I get the same error while navigating to Components >> Joomla Update or when I try to fetch updates in general.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Andre

Yes, you can trust it. The problem comes from Joomla!'s own extensions update code, i.e. what you get when you go to Extensions, Manage Extensions, Update. When Admin Tools loads its control panel we are asking Joomla! "are there any updates?". Joomla! is supposed to connect to our update server (cdn.akeebabackup.com), fetch this information, cache it and tell us if there is an update available. Your host has a firewall which prevents that.

Please ask your host to open communications over TCP port 80 to cdn.akeebabackup.com (note to host: this is a CDN, the hostname resolves to different sets of IPs based on geolocation) and TCP port 443 to www.akeebabackup.com.

Do note that even if you don't do that, you can still trust Admin Tools. It will work just fine. The only think which won't work is update notifications for Admin Tools itself. You will have to check our site about once a month and install updates manually.

Good to know, thanks. Do you know which URL (or config) i have to ask the host to open communications over TCP port 80 for if I also want Joomla to be able to fetch all updates in general?

Thanks,
Andre

The firewall opens per IP address, not per URL.

Each extension and Joomla! itself will communicate to a different server for fetching update information and the update package itself. Please ask the developer of each software for a list of update servers. I can't tell you which update servers other software, or Joomla! itself, may be using.
