When I try to do a backup with Akeeba Backup, I get this error message:

Backup Failed The backup operation has been halted because an error was detected. The last error message was: AJAX Loading Error HTTP Status: 500 (Internal Server Error)

I know I need to do some upgrades to Joomla version and Admin tools etc but I am not keen to do any upgrades until I have a recent Akeeba backup of my site downloaded. But I can't seem to get Akeeba backup to work on this particular website. I have attached the zipped Debug Log.

Thanks in advance for any advice you might have.

Your Akeeba Backup and Admin Tools versions are 2 years old and no longer supported. Please upgrade to Akeeba Backup 3.10.1 and Admin Tools 2.6.0 which, at the time of this writing, are the latest versions compatible with your Joomla!, PHP and MySQL versions.

Please uninstall Akeeba Backup before installing the new version. Your current installation is corrupt and cannot work.
