hi there, we have 5 sites using the exact same joomla and settings and template (just the content changes) for 5 different office-locations of one company. today we got the automatic info email from one of the sites that joomla 2.5.16 is available, so i logged in in the backend and updated it (there were many DB-errors showing up, but apparently all is working fine on the frontend). then i logged in on the other sites to update as well, but there was no indication in admin-tools that there is a joomla update available... is this a bug? can i somehow force admin-tools to check? best regards, d.

The Joomla! Update feature has been removed two versions ago.

so i guess this one site with the info-mail still had an old admin-tools version...?
why has this been removed?
we are administrating many many joomla sites and it was a great feature!!!

any suggestion for a workaround?

The mail and the updater are two different things.

The mail on update plugin is still present in new Admin Tools versions. It's a feature not included in Joomla! so we are still providing it to our users.

The updater was removed because the Joomla! Updater shipped with Joomla! is the same code. I had already donated the code to Joomla!. Now I'm tasked with it maintenance. Good news: I fixed the bugs that were present until versions 2.5.14 and 3.1.5. The Joomla! Update included in newer Joomla! versions will work as reliably as Admin Tools' Joomla! updater feature. If you take a look at our News, General section you'll see the entire reasoning behind this decision.

i see! great news then!

the trouble with Joomla! Update was until now that it required PHP allow_url_fopen setting to be enabled. if i understood correctly, you fixed this issue, so i have to manually update all 2.5.14 sites first, and in future joomla-update will work also without allow_url_fopen???

also: can i downgrade admin-tools to 2.5.6 in order to use its joomla-update feature?
this would come in very handy, since we are maintaing around 20 joomla sites for our customers, all version 2.5.14, and admin-tools 2.5.8 right now...

Yes, it used to. As of 2.5.15 it's fixed to use cURL, fsockets or fopen wrappers, whatever is available. Joomla! 3.1 and later already had that fix applied. I backported the code to J! 2.5.

While you can, I have to warn you that I have never tested. I can't see any reason to have any problems but, still, it's untested. Your mileage may vary.
