MySQL version: 5.5.30-30.1
Host: (optional, but it helps us help you)
Admin Tools version: 2.5.8

Description of my issue:

Hi Nick. As always, I can get nothing from the Joomla forum about this, but I thought I'd ask here, since you removed the Joomla update notification from Admin Tools *for SOME reason*.

The problem is that there is a security release, 2.5.16, but my 2.5.14 doesn't seem to know that -- it keeps telling me I have the latest version, even though I know I don't. I have turned on EVERY LAST method possible for telling me about an update, but 2.5.14 stubbornly refuses to recognize there's an update. I asked at the Joomla forum, got one answer which was a NON-answer ("just do it manually"), and when I asked, well how do I do that? I got no further response at all. It's been probably 5 years since I needed to update a site manually, and I really don't know how to do it, and frankly, the size of the Joomla upload makes that a *VERY* unappealing prospect (I always install with softaculous for that exact reason -- even on a 25 megabit connection, that upload takes FOREVER!!).

But what I REALLY want to know is why 2.5.14 won't recognize the update and how I can FORCE it to do so! AARGH! Why would they release an update that Joomla itself can't recognize?!?!

So anyway, I turned on the XSS shield, since that's the type of hack that 2.5.16 is supposed to address, so I hope that will suffice until such time as I can knock some sense into my 2.5.14. I really don't have a clue what to do about this, and at the Joomla forum I either get no answers, non-answers, or rude surly responses, so I figured I'd ask here. I realize you're out of town until tomorrow, so I hope the XSS shield will protect me in the meantime.

Thx,
Andria

Go to Extensions, Extensions Manager, Updates and click on Purge. Then go to Joomla! Update and click on Options. Select the Short Term Support (STS) update source option and click on Save & Close. Click on Options again. Now select the Long Term Support (LTS) update source option and click on Save & Close. You should see the update.

Please note that Joomla! 2.5.14 DOES NOT have the fixes I backported from Admin Tools to Joomla!. If your server has allow_url_fopen set to false you won't see any updates. If this happens, file a ticket to your host (Arvixe, if I recall correctly) and tell them to read http://www.dionysopoulos.me/blog/135-flicking-the-wrong-switch.html They will know what to do.

Thank you so much! Actually all I had to do was the "purge cache" thing, and when I then went to Joomla Update, it showed the 2.5.16 -- I really wish I knew why there's all this caching; it does nothing but cause me problems. I get that caching speeds up the front end, but for the back end, I wish I could just do away with caching altogether. ARGH!

Thanks! And unexpectedly quick -- I figured I wouldn't hear anything till tomorrow, given your long-distance travelling. Hope it was a good trip!

Thx much!
Andria

PS: where can I check that allow_url_fopen thing? Would it be in phpinfo? Thx!

Here's a weird thing, though I don't think it affected the update, but I just don't know -- it's showing that I'm now running 2.5.16, but before the "success" line, there are four lines that say: Refresh Manifest Cache failed: Extension is not currently installed. -- Any idea what that's about?

Thx!!

Ok, I checked the system info, found the allow_url_fopen, and it's set to "ON" -- so that's what I want it to be, right?

Arvixe has so far never let me down on their software or settings. :)
(just sometimes on their speed! ;-P )

Thx!!
