Description of my issue:

Hi Nicolas. My provider is having a problem with the MySQL databases. Some corrupt files are affecting InnoDB tables. So all my Joomla 3 Sites are down. The 2.5 sites are okay.

I was told that I had the option to "try to convert your database tables from InnoDB to MyISAM" using phpMyadmin. Or wait until they are done.

Is this safe – or recommended? Or should I just wait?

Thanks

Izai

Hello Izai,

yes, you can do that; there shouldn't be any problems.
Converting from MyISAM to InnoDB is what may cause problems (InnoDB doesn't support full text search until MySQL 5.6), so you should be ok.

Thank you for the answer, Davide.

One last question, in order to understand the issue: This is a 100% server-side issue, right? Joomla or AdminTools don't determine which kind of table gets installed, they just take what the server offers them?

Thanks

Usually (but it's up to developers) extensions should use the default engine, unless they need some specific engine-feature (ie fulltext).
However, if an extension tries to use a non existent engine, the server throws an error and everything stops.
