Description of my issue:

Hi Nicholas,

First of all - I'm sorry - my english is bad but I hope you will understand me.

When I try to create and save .htaccess (in .htaccess Maker), error occurs:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Also, after that I can not open/visit website, When I try go to the home page I am getting the same
Internal Server Error. So, I need to delete the .htaccess file and then again I can open my site normally.

Right now, I have finished restoring backup using Akeeba Backup (I did not change host). After restoring backup, when I tryed to visit website, I got that 500 Internal Server Error, so I renamed .htaccess to htaccess.bak, and home page opened well. But, after that, urls on site didn't work because index.php was missing in them, so in administration I disabled URL rewriting and now everything in frontend works well.

But, when I try to use .htaccess Maker I am getting this 500 Internal Server Error... Do you know how I could solve this problem?

Thanks in advance!
Filip

As noted in our documentation you need to do trial and error: start with all options disabled and enable them one by one until you find which is causing the problem on your site

Hmmm, only "Disable directory listings (recommended)" doesn't work, but before restoring backup it worked - host is the same... I don't understand why, I suppose I should ask my host...

Although "Disable directory listings (recommended)" is set to NO, it seems that directory listings is disabled by host (?)(when I try to list directory, I get: Forbidden - You don't have permission to access /images/stories/ on this server.Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.)

Anyway, thank you Nicholas,
I apologize for this

All the best,
Filip

Most likely your host implemented that directive in their main Apache configuration and forbids users to touch it. This is actually a very good thing! It means that your host now takes security more seriously.
