Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? No
Have I searched the tickets before posting? No
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? No
Joomla! version: (unknown)
PHP version: (unknown)
MySQL version: (unknown)
Host: (optional, but it helps us help you)
Admin Tools version: (unknown)

Description of my issue:

Admin Tools says that there is a Joomla update 2.5.12 available:

Your version 2.5.11
Latest version 2.5.12

However, on the Joomla.org download page, the most recent version listed for download is 2.5.11.

Shouldn't Admin tools only reflect what is on the Joomla.org download page?

Admin Tools reports what is available on the JoomlaCode.org site, the official repository for Joomla! updates. The release announcements in Joomla.org are usually much more latent than the upload of the actual update package.

Nic,

Nice to know....however...

This is a new installation and I've added their ID but it shows that 2.5.11 is the most recent. So why the discrepancy between one installation and another?

The Joomla! project screwed up big time. Please read https://www.akeebabackup.com/home/news/55-general/1525-joompa-2512-312-updates.html

Nic,

Thanks for the thorough explanation of the issues involved. I will use the Joomla Updater from this point on and ignore Admin Tools. Don't be too harsh on the Joomla Development Team. If they only make a mistake once every 3 years, they are 'way' ahead of the curve. LOL

This one was a mix of three screw ups. One developer changed a file he shouldn't touch. Another developer accepted the change without testing it. Admittedly it was in a huge patch, so they both have the benefit of doubt (they didn't screw up because of gross negligence or something). Then the leadership decided to publish the packages for testing but, unlike in the past, do that publicly. In the same place as the officially released packages. With the same version number as the yet-unreleased official packages. Ka-boom :)
