Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I searched the tickets before posting? Yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? No
Joomla! version: (unknown) 2.5.9
PHP version: (unknown) 5.3
MySQL version: (unknown)
Host: (optional, but it helps us help you) Hostmonster
Admin Tools version: (unknown) Latest

Description of my issue: I created another super user for someone to use so I didn't have to give away my log in info. That super user was created successfully after disengaging and then reengaging the necessary option in Admin Tools. However, the new super user cannot log in at the portal using the administrator?"special word" function. It just bounces back with blank fields, no error message or anything. What am I missing? This should be working ....
Thanks Much

Let's make sure that the problem is indeed caused by Admin Tools. In order to do so, try to replicate the issue after disabling the "System - Admin Tools" plugin. If you can still replicate the issue, it is not caused by Admin Tools. Disabling that plugin means that Admin Tools code (including the Web Application Firewall) is not running on your site.

If that resulted in the issue still occurring, it's not related with Admin Tools and I can't help you. If doing the above did stop the issue from occurring, we'll have to do some troubleshooting.

First go to Admin Tools, Web Application Firewall, Configure WAF. Make sure "Log security exceptions" is set to Yes; if it's not, set it to Yes and click on Save. Now try reproducing your issue. Immediately after that, please go to Admin Tools, Web Application Firewall, Security Exceptions Log and go to the last page. The last log entry should have the date and time of when the issue occurred. Please copy the Reason and Target URL here so that I can help you.

If, however, you do not see a log entry, or the Date and/or IP address do not match your last access, this problem is not caused by Admin Tools' WAF. In this case, you will have to do some .htaccess troubleshooting. You may need to read the general .htaccess troubleshooting page, as well as the page on finding out necessary .htaccess exceptions.

None of this is working. The credentials log in window that pops up in the browser now will not let anyone but the Super User log in to get to the Joomla log in window.
Disabling Admin Tools fixes that situation because the log in pop up does not appear once disabled and then the user can log into the normal Joomla log in.
So, I am definitely sure that Admin Tools is causing this. Why would this be if the additional user can log into Joomla normally, but not when Admin Tools is activated?

Again, my problem is that only my original Super User can log in to the back end of my Joomla website. No other users can get past the additional Admin-tools-generated login pop-up that appears in the browser window BEFORE you can get to the normal Joomla backend login page.

This must be some setting in the configuration menus.

I am not sure what the "log in pop up" refers to. Admin Tools does not render any popup anywhere. Can you please attach a screenshot?

Attached is picture of the pop up that appears in all web browsers where I have to put in the Super Users' credentials before I can get to the Joomla backend log in screen.

Please read https://www.akeebabackup.com/documentation/admin-tools/admin-pw-protection.html and https://www.akeebabackup.com/documentation/troubleshooter/atadminpw.html Do note that this popup is rendered by your browser because you have activated a security feature on your web server. It is not rendered by Admin Tools and disabling Admin Tools' plugin has no effect whatsoever on the administrator directory password protection.

So if I remove the .htpasswd file from the administrator directory using my host providers file manager, this pop up will not recur and everything will be ok otherwise?

Yes, of course.

Do I need to recreate the .htaccess file after removing that .htpasswd file?

I tried renaming that password file and the pop up still came up. Not sure if that's the solution yet or not.

Please make sure that you have removed the correct .htaccess file. You are supposed to remove the .htaccess file from your site's administrator directory, not the one in the main directory of your site. As soon as you remove the .htaccess file from the administrator directory you have completely reverted the change made by Admin Tools. If this doesn't make any change, maybe you should ask your host because that's not the result of something you did with Admin Tools.
