Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Have I searched the tickets before posting? Yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Joomla! version: 3.0.3
PHP version: 5.3.23
MySQL version: 5.5.30-cll
Host: Doteasy.com
Admin Tools version: 2.5.5

Description of my issue:

I wish to update to Joomla 3.1.x but I when I click on Joomla! Core Update on Admin Tools, it tells me my install is up to date and shows version 3.0.3

I have been able to use this feature on another website I own on a different host.

Could you please advise?

It seems that AT is unable to contact joomlacode.org to get the update information. Please ask your host to enable TCP port 80 communications to joomlacode.org for this feature to work. Alternatively you may want to try the Components, Joomla! Update option on your site. That core component is written by yours truly and is based on Admin Tools' Core Update feature with a few differences as to where the update info comes from and the way the update package is downloaded.

Hi,

I've been in touch with my host but I think we're butting heads there, lol.

I have copied the conversation transcript, see if you can make any sense of it. Sorry for the brick...

Hi,

I need to upgrade my Joomla site to the latest version but the auto-
update feature on the admin component I use (Admintools) does not
detect the new version.

I have been told by support that myhost needs to enable TCP port 80
communications to joomlacode.org

Could you kindly advise?

Kind regards,
Keeran

Hello Keeran,

Thank you for your reply.

TCP port 80 is enabled for both incoming and outgoing by default. You will not see your website if the TCP port 80 is closed.

Please let us know if you have further questions. Thank you.

William

Thanks for the reply. Makes sense. Here is the email I got from their support, may e you can make more sense of
it than me.

Hello Keeran,

Thank you for your reply.

Because Admintools is a plug-in for Joomla, we do not have support for this plug-in. You will need to contact the plug-in creators for further information and support.

Thanks William,

The message I copied in was from their support as you can see below. I have not had any problems with this
plugin with my other host so I imagine it has to do something with the server settings?

Copied from their email...

Please ask your host to enable TCP port 80 communications to joomlacode.org for this feature to work.

Hello Keeran,

Thank you for your reply.

If there were a specific server setting which needs to be changed, you will need to let us know which setting that is so we can look further into it for you. As mentioned, TCP port 80 is already open and enabled.

The only thing I understand from that conversation is that they really don't understand what Joomla! is, but I digress. Did you try using the Joomla! Updater component as I said in first reply? This will allow me to understand much more what's going on.

Thanks, To be honest I am this [---] close to closing the account with them and moving it to my other host where everything works perfectly.

Could you send me a link to the updater component you mention? I cant seem to find it in Joomla extension directory.

It's built into Joomla! itself. It's a core component, not something you install extra. Go to Components, Joomla! Update.

That worked, Thanks!!!

It's a shame I can't get to the admin-tools one to work as the notifications are very handy, but I guess if I get a notification from my other site that works, that solves the issue.
