Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Have I searched the tickets before posting? Yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Joomla! version: 2.5.9
PHP version: 5.3.2.3
MySQL version: 5.1.6.8-cli
Host: (optional, but it helps us help you)
Admin Tools version: 2.5.3

Description of my issue:
After installation of Akeeba and Admin Tools, attempt to go to Admin Tools I receive the Error 403. I reinstalled Akeeba Backup and Admin Tools, still the same problem. Not settings have been set in WAF because I can't get access to it.

I uninstalled and the reinstalled, same problem. I went into the database and verified the Super Admin settings was to '8'.

Recommendation?

Which version of Akeeba Backup have you installed? I know that you have the problem with Admin Tools, I just want to rule out another issue.

Akeeba 3.7.6 Pro. I've even tried older versions.

OK. Here's what you need to do:
1. Install Akeeba Backup Professional 3.7.7 twice, without uninstalling the component between successive installations
2. Install Admin Tools Professional 2.5.5 twice, without uninstalling the component between successive installations
3. Install the latest FOF dev release on top. Again, try doing the installation twice.

If this still doesn't help please make sure that you are logged in as a Super User. By default you won't be able to access the component as a simple Administrator.

As Super User:

I had downloaded and installed the recommended version of Akeeba Backup Pro two times, consecutively.

I had downloaded and installed the recommended version of Admin Tools Pro two times, consecutively.

I had downloaded and installed the FOF dev release (latest) twice consecutively.

After installation, I went to Components>Admin Tools and was successfully able to access the Control Panel.

Thank you.

Will i have to perform these steps in the future? Or will there be an another update?

These steps are usually required when upgrading from Core to Professional or when there is a major upgrade causing the Joomla! extensions installer to get confused and "forget" to update several files.

There is something else I noticed, Akeeba Backup will accept the Download ID but Admin Tools will not.

Both components share the same code to check the Download ID. Have you tried re-entering the Download ID in Admin Tools?

Yes, twice.

I checked the Admin Tools' Download ID feature on Joomla! 2.5.11 and 3.1.1 installations on different servers. In all cases I was able to enter the Download ID correctly and it was accepted without a problem.

Please try the following:
  • Remove the Download ID completely and click on Save & Close
  • Go to the "Add-on Download IDs" page. Your download ID is listed at the top of the page.
  • Double click on the Download ID to select it (don't use click-drag) and then immediately right click on it and choose Copy
  • Go back to your site and paste this Download ID

It should be accepted. That's exactly what I did during testing.

I can't understand what's going on. It's the same code in both cases, it makes no sense that it works in Akeeba Backup and not Admin Tools. Is uninstalling and reinstalling Admin Tools and option, considering that you will lose your settings?

I would except since I installed Admin Tools, the ability to uninstall, Manage, and Discover are all gone:

No, these tabs are not controlled by Admin Tools. In fact, let's go do some most likely unnecessary troubleshooting to help you confirm what I claim.

Let's make sure that the problem is indeed caused by Admin Tools. In order to do so, try the following:

1. Try setting the Error Reporting level in your Global Configuration to "None". Many errors are caused by harmless PHP Notices and Warnings being output to the browser, breaking anything which requires HTTP header manipulation such as Joomla!'s session management, AJAX calls and download systems.

2. Try to replicate the issue after disabling the "System - Admin Tools" plugin. If you can still replicate the issue, it is not caused by Admin Tools. Disabling that plugin means that Admin Tools code (including the Web Application Firewall) is not running on your site.

3. If you suspect an issue with the .htaccess file, replace its contents with the contents of the stock htaccess.txt file shipped with every version of Joomla!. If you are on GoDaddy please wait for 1-30 minutes for the changes to be effective. Then, retry loading the problem page. If you can still reproduce the error, then it is not caused by .htaccess Maker.

If doing any of the above resulted in the issue still occurring, it's not related with Admin Tools and I can't help you. If doing any of the above did stop the issue from occurring, we'll have to do some troubleshooting.

First go to Admin Tools, Web Application Firewall, Configure WAF. Make sure "Log security exceptions" is set to Yes; if it's not, set it to Yes and click on Save. Now try reproducing your issue. Immediately after that, please go to Admin Tools, Web Application Firewall, Security Exceptions Log and go to the last page. The last log entry should have the date and time of when the issue occurred. Please copy the Reason and Target URL here so that I can help you.

If, however, you do not see a log entry, or the Date and/or IP address do not match your last access, this problem is not caused by Admin Tools' WAF. In this case, you will have to do some .htaccess troubleshooting. You may need to read the general .htaccess troubleshooting page, as well as the page on finding out necessary .htaccess exceptions.
