Description of my issue:

Hi,

Apologies for asking, as I'm sure I'm missing something obvious but I can't seem to manage to fix this even with reading the FAQs. I'm trying to remove the password from Admin Tools, but I have the following issues:

1/ Even after I've entered the password, clicked on 'Password Protect Administrator' and then removed the password, next time I login to Joomla! it still asks me for a password before I can access certain features.

2/ I can't find a .htaccess or .htpasswd inside your site's administrator directory. I have put blank ones there as you suggest, but when I remove the password, it removes those files but still asks me for a password when I logout/login again!

Help :)

Dave.

P.S. I tried to edit this ticket to say I had read the documentation and when I tried to save it, it threw a 403 error.

P.P.S An uninstall and reinstall fixed it!

Probably! I think there is an issue and it might be to do with it being on a localhost Windows server.

I can investigate if you think it would help by entering a password again and trying to remove it?

I think it's probably browser caching. When you delete a .htaccess file the change gets applied immediately (unless you're using GoDaddy, which is a different story due to their peculiar server setup).
