Description of my issue:

Hi Nikko!

My tech adviser suggested to me that I should use your Joomla upgrade in preference to other methods because of your convenient restore feature.

I like to test upgrades first on my test.mysite.com.
When you get to the Upgrade file path selection, it says:

"FTP Directory to your site's root: mysite.com/home/public_html"

I assume that path would update my public site.

My test site is found at mysite.com/home/public_html/test
Is that the address I should use? and no following front slash?

Much thanks,

Lowtech

Yes, you should be using the one ending in /test. Do note that Admin Tools does not determine by itself the FTP directory. It reads it from your site's Global Configuration. You might want to change that there as well :)
