allright
Mandatory information about my setup:

Joomla! version: 2.5.9
PHP version: 5.3
MySQL version: (unknown)
Host: (optional, but it helps us help you) siteground
Admin Tools version: 2.5.3

Description of my issue:
It seems that admin tools changes the php version on my site. When I save the .htaccess file I get a 500 error, and cannot get back into admin tools. I go to the cpanel and set the php version to 5.3.23, then back to admin tools and the process repeats. Somehow, admin tools is changing the php version. Seems very strange to me.

I reviewed the post on trouble shooting, without success. Actually, when I deleted the fof folder, my site crashed. I reinstalled admin tools 2.5.3, but the problem persists. When I reinstalled admin tools I got the following error message:
Failed deleting controller

What really happens is that your host selects the active PHP version by modifying your .htaccess file. These changes are overwritten by the .htaccess Maker. You can, however, put those extra lines in the .htaccess Maker by following these steps and fix this issue:
  1. Create a new .htaccess file using .htaccess Maker
  2. Copy the .htaccess file locally as htaccess_old.txt
  3. Go to your host's control panel and set the PHP version to 5.3
  4. Copy the .htaccess file locally as htaccess_new.txt
  5. Compare htaccess_old.txt with htaccess_new.txt. There will be some lines added at the end.
  6. Copy those lines into the .htaccess Maker's "Custom .htaccess rules at the bottom of the file" field
  7. Save and create a new .htaccess file with .htaccess Maker

You should now see that your site sticks with PHP 5.3.
