Description of my issue: Compressing CSS and Javascript using SEO and Link Tools.

Hi Nick,

If I try to compress CSS and Javascript files using the SEO and Tools Link option my website loses it CSS and looks mainly like a big list of menu's down the left hand side of the page instead of a website. So I cannot use this wonderful option. This is definately my website software clashing with the compression option as other compression programmes cause the same thing to happen.

As soon as I turn off compression the website returns to perfectly normal.

My question is.

Is there a known list of plugins or components that are known NOT to play nicely with compression tools in admin tools pro.  Within your documentation mootools is one. Are there any other knowns?

When you get time (No hurry) would you mind taking a look at my site to see if there is any idea what might possibly cause this to clash happen. There is quite a bit of CSS and javascript going on.

Best wishes and regards.

I don't have a list of incompatible components and none can be produced. What I haev observed is that many Javascript files don't like being bundled with others. This usually happens with Javascript frameworks (mooTools, jQuery) and obfuscated/packed Javascript files.

Moreover, many CSS files –for reasons I don't quite understand– don't work when they are put together with other CSS files. This seems to happen a lot with template frameworks. For example, I'm using Gantry and I can't use that feature on my site. When I do, Gantry's CSS "breaks". Due to the way Gantry works, if I exclude some files which I assume are causing the problem, the cascading order changes and the template looks horrible.

Sometimes you just can't win.

Thank you for the quick reply.

Yes i'm in the same boat RE: Gantry and probably a dozen others.

I'll just put this in the no win category.

Cheers.
