Hi,

yesterday I purchase the subscription to the admin tools with my debit card and no problems...when I tried to do the same thing for akeeba backup it didnt go through and even when I tried paypal it didnt go through.  Now today when I tried I see a new option to use PayMill...which asks for my security password after entering my card information.  I am a little leary as some of the information is not in English "Submit" button and such.  Just wanting to make sure before I enter everything that all is good.  Plus, is there an option to speak with someone?

One of the payment options was trying to get me to enter my PIN number of my card...umm, no way would I do that!

Thanks

Corey

Hello Corey,

PayMill, being a European card processing service, implements 3DSecure. The workflow is this:

  • We send them your CC information over HTTPS.
  • They contact your bank.
  • The bank replies with a URL.
  • That URL is loaded in the lightbox. This is your bank asking you to verify that you are the cardholder.
  • The bank checks with PayMill that you indeed asked to be charged. PayMill says you did.
  • The bank then replies back to PayMill that you are the rightful owner of the card.
  • PayMill accepts your payment and replies to us that your transaction is accepted.

This makes it nigh impossible for someone with a stolen card to purchase anything. The part you see not being in English is your bank's MasterCard SecureCode or Verified by VISA page. It should bear the logo of your bank and sport a link to your bank which verifies the authenticity of that popup window (at least these are the specification set forth by MasterCard and VISA).

In other words, neither us nor our payment processor (PayMill) ever get the PIN of your card. Only your bank receives that information and they do it to confirm that you are the owner of the card.

Supposedly, 3D Secure was designed to be intuitive and easier for cardholders to use. I guess we can call it a failure on that respect :)

Thanks Nicholas!

It is intuitive and easy...but when I ran into problems and such I was more just wanting to confirm that it was official...making sure I wasnt on some spoofed payment site sending my infomration to who knows.

Thanks again!

Corey
