Description of my issue:

Hi Nicholas,

Not an issue as such, more of a question on updating. I'm currently trialling watchful.li for centralised management of Joomla sites. This system notifies via their dashboard available updates.

Admin Tools Pro emailed me today about 2.5.1 being available, but im getting nothing out of watchful.li. Im assuming it monitors Extension Manager:Update and passes that information back. Im currently talking to watchful.li to see how they check on Joomla updates, but wondered if you have had this question asked before.

I know we've got 1 click updating available but if I go with a Joomla management product it would be nice to have centralised management of updates.

What are your thoughts?

Not sure that answers my question, I have no problem whatsover doing the install and AT Pro works fine, its was just a general query about how AT Pro notifies Joomla that there is an update ready to install.

It doesn't. Joomla!'s integrated extensions installer only supports software which can be freely downloaded by anyone with an Internet connection. Obviously, I can't use this for my commercial components. That would be a business sucide. Therefore I have to implement my own updater ("Live Update") inside the component itself.

Watchful is using Joomla!'s integrated extensions installer to retrieve available updates. While this works for free-as-in-beer extensions it doesn't work for commercial extensions such as my components, your template and several other extensions which you paid to have on your site.

I understand how hard it is to maintain multiple sites. This is why Admin Tools and Akeeba Backup have the option to send you an email notifying you of the update, together with a one-click URL. All you need to do is click on those URLs as you receive the emails and be sure that your sites remain up-to-date as far as Akeeba components are concerned. I am now planning on adding this functionality to all of my other commercial extensions as well (it will, however, take me 1-2 months; I don't want to rush such features and push them out before they're fully tested).
