Hello Geoff,

As noted in our release announcement, the notice on the frontpage and the Compatibility page the latest versions of all of our sofware require PHP 5.3 but you have 2.5.9. Even though you can install older versions of Admin Tools and Akeeba Backup I strongly recommend against it. My recommendation is to ask your host to make PHP 5.3 the default version for your site.

FYI, I have outlined the very important reasons here: https://www.akeebabackup.com/home/news/55-general/1501-end-of-php52-support.html IMHO, moving to PHP 5.3 is the only sane thing to do if you want to have a secure, maintainable, speedy and highly ranked (on search engines) website.

Thanks for the quick reply... sorry I missed that statement. I have since contacted my host and added as per their instructions:

We currently have 5.3.10 (or higher) installed on all servers. A handler for PHP 5.3 is added to our shared and reseller servers for those who wish to utilize it. In order to utilize this handler, you will need to add the following code to your .htaccess file:

# Use PHP 5.3 AddType application/x-httpd-php53 .php   I have done so as instructed but with no success on the install.

I believe they didn't paste their reply correctly. You have to add the following two lines in the end of your site's .htaccess file:

# Use PHP 5.3
AddType application/x-httpd-php53 .php

The first line, starting with a hash mark, is a comment. The second line is what tells your server to use PHP 5.3.

After installing Admin Tools, if you're going to use the .htaccess Maker feature please make sure that you add this line to "Custom .htaccess rules at the bottom of the file" in the .htaccess Maker page BEFORE creating a .htaccess with it.

Sucess... I didnt save the .htaccess file correctly with my ftp program. Thanks for your quick support; awesome. I be sure to write a top rated review in the Joomla extension dir. For any Hostgator users this is a very simple fix.

All the best,
