Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Yes, the section on Joomla 1.6/1.7/2.5 Installation Problems.
Have I searched the tickets before posting? Yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Joomla! version: 2.5.9
PHP version: 5.4.11
MySQL version: 5.5.28-29.3
Host: SiteGround
Admin Tools version: 2.5.0

Description of my issue:  Admin Tools installed just fine, but afterwards, I am unable to open the component in the backend interface.  The error message is: "The page isn't redirecting properly."

I'm also seeing some rather unusual behavior when opening things like Control Panel or System Information.  I see several instances of the line:  "You are not authorized to use this feature."

I found this link https://www.akeebabackup.com/support/admin-tools/9864-you-are-not-authorized-to-use-this-feature.html and wondered if this is what I should do to my database, given the messages I'm receiving.

BTW, Akeeba Backup 3.7.0 upgraded without issue.

Thank you for any/all help you can provide.

Janis

Hello Janis,

First try logging out of your site and back in as a Super Administrator (Super User). Since super users have explicit "allow everything under the sun" permissions you will be able to access the component. Then you need to go to Options, Permissions and make sure the user group under you're logging in has adequate permissions. Please note that explicit denies in any other group the user belongs to, or explicit denies in any parent group, will prevent the user from using the component. This is a limitation of the Joomla! ACL system: explicit denies always override implicit or explicit allows.

The account I have been using is indeed the Super User account.  I have already logged out/in again, but just now repeated the process, still without any luck upening Admin Tools.

When you suggest opening Options | Permissions, do you mean in Global Config?  I can't view anything at all in Admin Tools.  This time when opening Akeeba Backup, I got the "You are not authorized....." message.  I opened OPTIONS and perms for Super Users looked ok, but I saved again.  Have not seen the error for Akeeba again since saving.

AT is still visible on the Components menu, but I still get the "The page isn't redirecting properly." message.

Thoughts?

After researching the error a bit further, can you tell me if this is the correct path to the new AT component? (replacing mydomainname with the actual domain)

http://www.mydomainname.com/administrator/index.php?option=com_admintools&view=cpanel

Second, should I completely uninstall AT and re-install the previous version?

Finally, after about an hour, I logged back into the site having the problems and I still receive the "You are not authorized to use this feature." when opening Akeeba Backup.

Perhaps I should revert them both back to previous versions?

Let me know what you think Nicholas.

You are not getting an error from Akeeba Backup. What happens is that when Admin Tools cannot redirect it sets the Joomla! system message to "You're not authorised to use this feature". This message is stored in yoru user's session. When you open any other component's page you see that message which was stored in the session.

Yes, that's the correct URL to Admin Tools' back-end page.

If all else fails, do try uninstalling and reinstalling the component. Please remember that by doing so you will lose all of your settings.

No worries on losing those settings.  I have them documented.

Uninstalling/reinstalling Admin Tools.  Cross fingers, don't hold breath.

I don't want to jinx this, but AT is working again.  Now to get my settings back in place.  How weird.

The uninstall, logout, login, reinstall of AT 2.5.0 seems to have worked.

Let's not close this ticket just yet though.  Going to test the same process on other sites.

Thank you Nicholas!

Spoke too soon.  This time I was able to open Admin Tools from the Component menu, but that's where the success stopped.

Tried setting the Master Password in AT 2.5.0 and am now circling the same drain with the error message "You are not authorized ...." and a screen that says the page isn't redirecting properly.

I'm now uninstalling and reinstalling the previous version.  Well, now I'm really up a creek without a paddle.  The same thing is happening to AT 2.4.4

Could it be the recent changes in PHP at the server level?

Tried a different browser with same results.  Terribly frustrating.

Having no problem configuring revF67E32F, nor am I having the permissions issue opening any other component in the backend.

I set the Master Password, Password-protected Administrator, and a couple more things in WAF without any problems.  Moved around to some other components and so far so good.

Logged out, logged in using new Secret URL and password.  Logged into Joomla with Super User account and returned to AT without issue.

This DEV release is working as expected.  :-)

Thank you Nicholas!  Not sure what you saw on your end, but glad you have intelligent eyeballs.
