Joomla! version: 1.5.23
PHP version: 5.3
MySQL version: (5.5.23)
Host: (www.tankmasters.net @hostgator.com)
Admin Tools version: (2.2 stable)

Description of my issue:  I made the mistake of manually changing folder and file permissions to 777 because I couldn't get the joomla core update to 1.5.26 to work!  Now I'm locked out of website and administrator page.  I tried changing permissions back to 755 and 644 through ftp but it seems I am making thing worse!   What should I do??

(BTW, before i screwed up permissions, I would go to update and get ERROR: The archive file is corrupt, truncated or archive parts are missing)

Chris

You have to use your FTP programme to give all folders 0755 permissions and all files 0644 permissions. FileZilla is very good for this job. You can select all folders, change permissions and in the dialog box it will let you select only folders or only files.

If you can't get this done by yourself you can always ask your host. For them it takes roughly 30 seconds and it's three commands away.

Actually, my problem was that somehow while changing the permissions I accidentally moved the admin/components folder inside another folder!  Yes, it was easy in filezilla.

So can you please help me with the joomla update error?  Thank you.

I should be upgrading to J! 2.5 but I at least want to get the latest 1.5 patch for now.

Of course I can. You just need to read the documentation page, under "What happens if I get a message about a truncated or corrupt archive?". That's why I wrote those two paragraphs on that page :)
