Hi Nicholas,

I use a .htaccess file  created by the fantastic .htaccesmaker and after some finetuning everything works like a charm.
I have two short questions:

1. Should the XML-RPC server option still remain to "Yes" in .htaccesmaker when backing up with webcron.org to Dropbox? I'm not sure if webcron.org uses this mechanism.

2. Is the list of blocking-agents updated in every Admin Tools version or do I have to update it myself? If yes where can I find a recent list of this agents?

Greetings and have a nice weekend,

Paul

Hello Paul,

1. No, that's a legacy option which doesn't make any sense any more. The last Joomla! version which came with a built-in XMLRPC server was Joomla! 1.5.26.

2. No, it's not updated and it's only a sample collection, not something you need / should use. For example, blocking curl and wget user agents will probably kill off front-end backup jobs and most remote access tools / services interacting with your site. If you don't know what to do with this feature, don't use it. It's an advanced feature for the minority of advanced users who need it.

Hi Nicholas,

Thanks for your explanation, I've set both options to "No" now.
Maybe it's a suggestion to set the option "Allow access to the XML-RPC server to "No" by default in the next version of AT Pro?

I will have to remove that obsolete option :)
