Description of my issue:

Hi Nicholas

I recently had my site hacked, and I eneded up seeking some professional help cleaning it up.

Part of the cleanup process incluced tupdaating from Admin Tools to Admin Tools Pro (which I have now paid for!).  I am still trying to work out some of the things that were done (yes, I know!, but no names no pack drill as they say).

One of the consequences is that I now have an addtional password procedure when I access the admin pages.  I suspect that this has been done using the Password-protect Adminitstrator tool, but as I am not certain I don't want to risk making any changes without being sure.

When I first access the admin area I get a popup window headed 'Authentication Required' and "User Names and password are being requested by http://xxxxxxx.  The site says Restircted Area".

Does this appear to be part of the Admin Tools pack, or might it be something different?

Hi Alan,

Yes, what you describe must have been done with the Password Protect Administrator feature of Admin Tools. If you do not want this you can always remove the .htaccess and .htpasswd files from your site's administrator directory (but not the site's root!). Alternatively, you can use the Password Protect Administrator feature again to either disable the password protection or change the username and/or password.
