Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? yes .htaccess
Have I searched the tickets before posting? yes, all of them
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? yes
Joomla! version: (2.5.8)
PHP version: (unknown)
MySQL version: (unknown)
Host: (optional, but it helps us help you)
Admin Tools version: (2.4.4)

Description of my issue:       Is there a way to change the url to the backend of my site? It's currently /administrator, but can't I change the url all together? I want to do the same for the Cpanel login so that no one knows where to log in from.

You can't and you shouldn't unless you want to break all third party extensions and some of Joomla!'s own code.

So, all joomla sites have to have the /administrator panel?

Yes. That's why Admin Tools Prodessional offers the "Administrator secret URL parameter" option and the administrator IP whitelist feature. They are designed to hide the administrator login page and entire back-end respectively.

Oh wow. Where is the "Administrator secret URL parameter" located?

Also, what happens if I add my IP address to the administrator IP whitelist? Does it block all the other IP addresses from accessing the backend?

I would suggest starting off by reading our Quick Setup page. Something tells me that you have not done the basic setup of the component yet :)

Sorry to bother you again Nicholas, but I have a problem again. I was blocked out of my site, I'm unblocked now. However, my administrator is accessed from both /administrator and /administrator?secret.

Should I try removing the .htaccess and .htpasswd files from the administrator file from cpanel?

I was blocked out of my site, I'm unblocked now.

This means that you triggered Admin Tools protection many times in a short period of time and your IP got automatically blocked.

However, my administrator is accessed from both /administrator and /administrator?secret.

Assuming that you have indeed entered a secret URL parameter (double check your WAF configuration), this means that a. your IP is in one of your whitelists (administrator IP whitelist or one of the two fields in WAF configuration where you can enter IP addresses) or b. the System-Admin Tools plugin is not enabled or c. your PHP version is lower than 5.2.7 and Admin Tools can't load itself.

The two things you have reported are mutually exclusive. If the first happens, the second can't happen. If the second happens, the first can't happen. If both are happening then you do not have a secret admin URL parameter. BTW, the secret admin URL paramter has nothing to do with .htaccess and .htpasswd; removing them will not solve alything. Moreover, exactly what is the issue you want me to help you with? Explain to you why you got blocked or do you have a problem with the secret admin URL param?

I checked with my host and my php version is 5.2.17 , so that must be the problem?

nicholas

No, it's not. 5.2.17 is newer than 5.2.7 which means that Admin Tools can still run on your site.

Yes, my IP is on the IP whitelist. Does this give my IP-address the permission to access through /administrator and /administrator?secret because that's what I'm doing now.

nicholas

Yes, it does. When your IP is in the whitelist no Admin Tools security check is performed against the requests originating from that IP address.
