Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Have I searched the tickets before posting? Yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Joomla! version: 2.5.8
PHP version: (unknown) 2.3.3
MySQL version: (unknown)
Host: (optional, but it helps us help you)
Admin Tools version: (unknown)

Description of my issue:

After being locked out of Backend, I tried to disable WAF using procedure but get the following error:

Warning: is_file(): open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/var/www/vhosts/***-***-***.co.uk/site1plugins/system/admintools/admintools/main.php) is not within the allowed path(s): (/var/www/vhosts/***-***-***.co.uk/site1/:/tmp/) in /var/www/vhosts/***-***-***.co.uk/site1/libraries/joomla/filesystem/file.php on line 523

Not sure but "/site1plugins/" looks a bit suspect to me(slash missing).

I've tried disabling htaccess and checked configuration.php for misconfig but can't see anything.

Try removing the entire plugins/system/admintools directory. Also check your administrator directory for a php.ini file. If it exists check the open_basedir restrictions. Then login to your site, fix any WAF issues you may have and install Admin Tools again without uninstalling your existing copy.

Thanks Nicholas,

The issue seemed to have arisen after copying an extra "application" in my zoo folder in /media

This was the third and seemed to throw Joomla off.

Removing admintools got me in to the backend login screen but after loggin in, page was blank with a 500 error.

I had to delete the extra app folder to get back into admin.

Thanks for the suggestion.
