Description of my issue:

I have been trying to enable the CSS and Javascript file combination option in Admin Tools. The Javascript combine works fine, however enabling the CSS combine breaks the site. I have tried both the plugin and the direct options and have added the necessary custom lines to my htaccess file. The Chrome Developer Tools shows an error "Uncaught Exception: Maximum call stack size error".

The error you tell me has nothing to do with CSS. This is a Javascript error. Regarding Javascript errors please read the documentation of this feature under "Skipped JavaScript files". Moreover, regarding CSS issues, you may have to add some CSS files in the "Skipped CSS files" area.

For what is worth, my experience tells me that the CSS produced by popular templates developed by major template clubs cannot be combined reliably. This ows to the fact that they use a gazillion CSS files which have to load in a very specific order for the browser to parse them the way the template club desired. Sadly, this is also the case when you need to combine CSS the most. Unfortunately I can't do anything about it. If the original CSS is a messy affair there's no automated code in the world which can fix it.
