Description of my issue:

Hi Nicholas,

I understand that we can't block every bad bot, but....

I want to block couple/several bad boots that are visiting my site. What is the best way to do it -- I don't want to mess with the htaccess (and i see the   Common hacking tools and bandwidth hoggers block -- BEGIN).

There is a post/thread here -- ask apache, titled Blocking Bad Bots and Scrapers with .htaccess

My question: If I copy the Blocking Bad Robots and Web Scrapers with RewriteRules ^ (there are 3 versions there) and place it at the  bottom,  after that line:  ##### Joomla! core SEF Section -- END

am I   going to create any issue? any conflict  with  the protection of Admin Tools?

(another question about htaccess: is there a reason to keep the copy that was created by the htaccess Maker? the one with the extension .admintool ?)

Thank you for your time & help!

David

Why don't you use the "Block access from specific user agents" and "User agents to block, one per line" features of Admin Tools? There is no need to reinvent the wheel.

Yes, it is :) When I start thinking very complex solutions to simple problems I put the computer on hibernate and go do something else. An hour later, lo and behold, a simple solution has suddenly popped up in my head. It seems that our brains do need some downtime :)
