This is an issue we've been experiencing with our payments processor, 2Checkout, when you try paying by PayPal. Despite the misleading error message, your payment does go through. You should have received an email from us confirming your subscription and also received the (paid) invoice as a PDF file attachment.
For what is worth, I am pasting the email I just sent to 2Checkout support:
Over the past month I have received several error reports from my clients who try to check out using PayPal. They receive the following error message:
An error has occurred during checkout. Please contact the seller and reference the error code below. ERROR CODE:PE101
I have enough issue reports to establish a pattern (I am a PHP developer and I do tech support for a living; I feel your pain with such issue reports). It only happens when my customers use PayPal to check out. It never happens when they pay directly with VISA or MasterCard. Despite the error I do notice that they payment does go through correctly, the payment notification does reach my site and the subscription which my customers buy from me is activated properly.
Can you please look into it? It is becoming increasingly frustrating for both me and my customers.
I hope that within the next few days they will have found the root cause of this issue and fix it.
