Thanks Nicholas - solved my problem.

About your doubts of efficiency using the permanent blacklist y have another expirience. I had a lot of intents to manipulate my page from China and with permanent blocking I reduced the attacs to nearly cero.

I don't mind the colateral effects to legal access - when I block 500 IPs there are still some more remaining. :-)

Hello Klaus,

Thank you for the feedback! I don't have a lot of Chinese hackers attacking, but I do get a lot from Turkey (presumably because there's an ongoing hackers' war between Turkey on one side and Greece and Cyprus on the other one – my company is in Cyprus and I'm Greek, so...). The automatic IP bans do work just fine for me and I really do have legitimate Turkish clients as well. I guess it's a matter of weighing your options. If you don't expect signifficant traffic from China it's more effective for you to do permanent IP bans :)
