Joomla! version: 2.5.8
PHP version: (unknown)
MySQL version: (unknown)

Admin Tools version: 2.4.3

Description of my issue:

I would like to insert an htaccess htpasswd setup to my www.domain.com/administration folder. If I only "instititue" the use of this setup in the folder, will I loose everything setup by the htaccess in the root folder of the site? I just want one more way to make it difficult for someone to get to the administration folder.

Thank you,

Ryan

Hello Ryan,

You can use Admin Tools' "Administrator Password Protection" feature. It adds a .htaccess and .htpasswd file in your site's administrator directory. It doesn't repalce the .htaccess in your site's root – this would be wrong and extremely unnecessary.

Answering your question, remember that .htaccess files "cascade". The options from the .htaccess in your site's root are "inherited" by the .htaccess file in each subdirectory. You don't lose any protection with the method you are intending to implement. On the contrary.

Good point on the Password Protection. I should have realized that is how it is done. My plan was to just manually add one to that folder, but I wasnt sure about the cascading effects of the root htaccess. Wanted to make sure I did not overwrite something from that root file, because I am very happy with it.

Thank you for the input. Sweet product that will be a standard for all of my sites.
