Description of my issue:

Hi Nicholas!

After not having done anything for a couple of weeks, I started to work on a nearly finished Joomla website again.

I checked its functionality and everything was working as expected. Then I updated to Joomla 2.5.8 - all was fine. Next thing I did: I updated Admin Tools to the latest version.

And all of a sudden the homepage started to throw a 404 - Article not found error. All other menu items worked, just the home page showed that behaviour. I checked the usual suspects (Article deleted? No. Article not published? Nope. etc....) until it dawned on me that I had a djimage slider module in action only on that very homepage. I unpublished the module and the homepage was back again. (Albeit without the slider)

I then tried to set up an exception in the WAF, tried both com_djimageslider and mod_djimageslider, but to no avail. 404 again.
Next thing I thought of was an exception in the .htdoc file allowing access to the component and module folder of the slider, but that didn't help either.

Since the trouble started after the update of ATPRO (at least that's how it feels - I'm in no way saying Admin tools are responsible for my problems), is there anything you can think of to resolve the issue?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Let's make sure that the problem is indeed caused by Admin Tools. In order to do so, try the following:

1. Try setting the Error Reporting level in your Global Configuration to "None". Many errors are caused by harmless PHP Notices and Warnings being output to the browser, breaking anything which requires HTTP header manipulation such as Joomla!'s session management, AJAX calls and download systems.

2. Try to replicate the issue after disabling the "System - Admin Tools" plugin. If you can still replicate the issue, it is not caused by Admin Tools. Disabling that plugin means that Admin Tools code (including the Web Application Firewall) is not running on your site.

3. If you suspect an issue with the .htaccess file, replace its contents with the contents of the stock htaccess.txt file shipped with every version of Joomla!. If you are on GoDaddy please wait for 1-30 minutes for the changes to be effective. Then, retry loading the problem page. If you can still reproduce the error, then it is not caused by .htaccess Maker.

If doing any of the above resulted in the issue still occurring, it's not related with Admin Tools and I can't help you. If doing any of the above did stop the issue from occurring, we'll have to do some troubleshooting.

First go to Admin Tools, Web Application Firewall, Configure WAF. Make sure "Log security exceptions" is set to Yes; if it's not, set it to Yes and click on Save. Now try reproducing your issue. Immediately after that, please go to Admin Tools, Web Application Firewall, Security Exceptions Log and go to the last page. The last log entry should have the date and time of when the issue occurred. Please copy the Reason and Target URL here so that I can help you.

If, however, you do not see a log entry, or the Date and/or IP address do not match your last access, this problem is not caused by Admin Tools' WAF. In this case, you will have to do some .htaccess troubleshooting. You may need to read the general .htaccess troubleshooting page, as well as the page on finding out necessary .htaccess exceptions.

Oh dear, lack of sleep seems to take its toll eventually...

Not only am I inventing names like .htdoc file (instead of .htaccess), I've obviously lost any analytical skills as well. I should of course have disabled the admin tools plugin in the first place - that would have made this ticket unnecessary. So it's not Admin tools that has caused the problem.

It was simply an outdated version of the slider module which obviously called it a day when the latest Joomla version came into play.

Sorry for bothering you and a  big Thank You anyway!

Cheers,

Frank

I generally enjoy it when a user self-scolds himself, but don't be so harsh on yourself :) The obvious (disabling the Admin Tools plugin) is usually the last thing attempted during debugging. I believe it has to do with the way our humans brain work. It's night impossible being impartial observers to a problem affecting us and this does screw up our analytical skills. That's why I have those handy instructions I pasted in my reply.

You're welcome and have a nice weekend, Frank :)

Well, my brain has certainly taken a break - and I'm going to do the same right now. :)

Have a good weekend too, Nicholas!
