Hello Jan,
No, I have not implemented such a reduntant and useless feature. That's right, it's redundant and useless because Joomla! allows you to create a custom 404 page ever since Joomla! 1.5.0, released back in 2007. Here's the instructions page: http://docs.joomla.org/Custom_error_pages FWIW, the custom 404 page made sense in Joomla! 1.0 but not in any Joomla! version from 1.5.0 onwards :)
