Description of my issue:

Hope you are feeling better Nicholas :)

Quick question!

I have just finished upgrading our website offline and am trying to upload it to the server into a test directory

Have backed up and uploaded kickstart and the JPA file using FTP-  as usual (very familair with backing up and restoring with KS)

For some reason I am getting a 403 error when I try and get kickstarter to work

Forbidden

You do not have permission to access this document.

I have changed the permissions to 777 in Admin tools but to no avail

The only thing I can think of is that for some reason I am not the owner of the folder and files! Even though I am if u get what I mean

When I read about changing ownership of files my head goes screwy because I dont know about Putty etc

Is their a way with Admin tools to change ownership of files/folders?

best to you

Andrew

Try renaming your .htaccess file.

Wow that was fast!

Do you mean the root .htacces and if so what  to rename to?

Yes, rename the site's main .htaccess. I assume that it's generated by Admin Tools' .htaccess Maker which prevents arbitrary scripts, including kickstart.php, from executing and gives a 403 instead.

The even was very good! I really enjoyed it :)

Got it!

Yes the htaccess was created by admin tools

And disabling it allowed Kickstart to work

So would the normla  procedure be to disable it as and when needed for backing and and restoring it and then reenabling it again?

I can imagine the Joomla event would be good sometimes I dream of being able to spend a day with a Joomla expert to just learn and bask in the feeling of 'Oh someone understands me'.

Its not the same employing consultants etc as meeting fellow pple all exploring together!

Thanks for the help by the way!

Its weird I know I can always rely on 'my mate Nicholas'! Very comforting!

You only need to disable prior to restoring using Kickstart. It has no effect on backing up or restoring with the integrated restoration feature.

There are dozens of Joomla! events every year. I'm positive there's at least a couple or three of them within reasonable travelling distance from wherever on the world you happen to be :)

Exactly!
