Joomla! version: Joomla! 2.5.7
PHP version: 5.3.8 (Using Xampp)
MySQL version: 5.5.16
Host: Local Host using Xampp
Admin Tools version: Latest

I am upgrading our site on local drive from 1.5 to 2.5
The upgrading process has gone relatively successfully using SP Upgrade
Following that a long process of redesign has been taking place - again on local drive
Today the site started slowing down and eventually crashed!
I went to look at the database in PHPMyadmin and did some general repairs on tables and the site worked again for a while.
But there were errors.
I thought I would see if using the Admin Tools Optimisation utility might help
But when I used it it got stuck half way through and the the screen went blank!
I had a backed up version of the site from 3 days ago and installed that on a new database but realised that some essential parts of the redesign - menus and things weren't included int he backup!
( I know I should do daily backups!)
As an experiment I decided to see if I could connect the backed up version of the site to the original database.
It worked and is working fine
However I wanted to test the Optimisation tool again
But It froze once more
This leads me to think that something in the database must be corrupted
I was wondering if you had any ideas where to look
The key thing is that the site is up and running using this database
so there must be some tables somewhere which are screwy!

Thanks

This makes me thing that you have a quite serious db-related issue.

But when I used it it got stuck half way through and the the screen went blank!

This further makes me fear that this is a serious db issue. All that Admin Tools does is what you can also do through phpMyAdmin by selecting all tables and choosing "With selected: repair". There's no magic there. This is a feature for those you don't know how to use phpMyAdmin.

This leads me to think that something in the database must be corrupted

Yep, that's right.

I was wondering if you had any ideas where to look

Before you do anything, take a backup. Keep several copies of it. Make a general hard drive check. Then I'd recommend dropping the database (not just drop the tables, drop the entire database) and create it afresh. Finally restore the backup.
