Mandatory information about my setup:

Joomla! version: J2.5.7

Admin Tools version: 2.3.2

Description of my issue:
In the "Basic Security" section of .htaccess Maker I would like to know if it's OK to add a more complete list of unwanted bandwidth/hacking agents/bots to add and block in that section? For example, when I hosted on HostGator they had this knowledgebase article with a very long list of agents/bots to block in the .htaccess file:
http://support.hostgator.com/articles/specialized-help/technical/apache-htaccess/user-agent-blocks-mainly-for-bots

1) Can you tell me if it's OK to add a long list like that of agents/bots to block?
2) If yes, then can you give me a few examples from that list of how I should enter them into the Basic Security box of .htaccess Maker so they are entered and blocked correctly?

3) This question is unrelated to 1 and 2: I have a test site setup which is a clone of my live site. What's the best way to setup AT Pro so only I can browse the test site URLs? I don't want the test site URLs to be crawled by search engines or bots. Do I just select all the GeoBlock choices and put my IP address in the Admin IP Whitelist section?

Thanks for any advice!

1. No, it will make your site dead slow. Besides, anyone but the stupidest hacker would do as much as change the User Agent string of his hacking script. Luckily, Admin Tools is more than capable of dealing with the stupidest hackers' scripts.

2. If you want to disregard my advice, you can add those lines into the .htaccess directives to place at the top of the file area in .htaccess Maker. Much easier.

3. Just set the site off-line from Joomla!'s Global Configuration. This is why that option is there :)
