Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Have I searched the tickets before posting? Yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Yes - Admin Tools update / troubleshooting sections
Joomla! version: 2.5.7
PHP version: 5.3.16
MySQL version: 5.1.63
Host: Rochen
Admin Tools version: 2.5.7

Description of my issue:

Hi Nick!

I keep getting the Admin Tools Joomla update email, with new / unique update links each time, from a site that already has the latest version of Joomla installed. It starts with:

An updated version of Joomla! is available.

Joomla! version currently installed: 2.5.7

Joomla! version available for installation:

To install the update on

I've tried Reloading this information and clearing discover / update caches. Is there possibly a flag in the database that didn't get set when updating. Can I fix it that way?

I bet you have a simple fix ;-)

Thanks!

Matt

Right after updating you have to go back to the Joomla! updater feature in Admin Tools and click on "Refresh the update information". Normally this is not required as it only takes a few hours until this information is regenerated automatically. Seems like something got stuck and you have to do this manually.

Hi Nick,

Using Admin Tools, I've gone ahead and re-installed 2.5.7 and then went back and clicked the refresh this information button. Checking elsewhere in the site, nothing seems to want to be updated. So, we'll see.

Thanks!

Maybe you have a forgotten test or dev site sending those emails? If Admin Tools tells you that Joomla! is up to date the plugin won't be sending out any more emails.

I thought about that, but the update URLs all go to the live site. Wouldn't a dev site produce a link to it, even localhost?

Yes, they would. Strange!

Very strange indeed! We'll see...

Just discovered that this is also happening on another site, that is on another server.

The message is also:
An updated version of Joomla! is available.

Joomla! version currently installed: 2.5.7
Joomla! version available for installation:

To install the update on...

Weirdness!

This seems to be happening only on your sites, Matt. I have this plugin turned on on all of my sites and I don't get double emails. Nobody else has reported this issue either. And it doesn't make any sense that this is happening. The code for the Joomla! update feature and the notification plugin have not been touched since several versions ago.

Seems to not be an issue any more. One of the sites was recently moved, and it appears that the host still had the old account on the server for a while (ARG!).

The other looks like some corruption with Joomla core files. I ended up nearly rebuilding the site, for other reasons, and this issue is also resolved.

Admin Tools wins again!

Me too! It was driving me nuts not knowing.

You'd think a hosting company would delete the old account when they themselves migrate it to another server. Oh well!

No, they don't. They will only kill your site when your account expires. Believe me, you're not the only coming here with this problem ;)

I can see why they wouldn't kill it right away. But, they are also causing some issues, and I'm sure this isn't the only one. Another reason why I host myself :-)

Oh, you bet! I have seen some interesting stories, like a guy accusing me of having hacked his site because his old host was keeping on sending him CRON job emails from his scheduled backups on the old site. The guy wouldn't see them on his site (on the new host) and freaked out on me. The joys of being a web developer. Well, you darn sure know what I mean :D
