Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Yes. Admin Tools troubleshooting
Have I searched the tickets before posting? Yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Joomla! version: 2.5.6
PHP version: 5.2.17
MySQL version: 5.5.23-55
Host: hostgator
Admin Tools version: 2.2.9

Description of my issue:
Client was blocked out of the site by the auto IP ban. I have

  • Removed all exceptions for their IP from the Security Exceptions Log

  • There are currently no IP's listed in the Site IP Blacklist or the Auto IP Blocking List

  • Added her IP to the "Never Block these IPs" box

  • Allow admin access only to IPs in Whitelist is set to No

  • Disallow site access to IPs in blacklist is set to Yes

But the user still cannot get access to the admin login page. She gets kicked back to the home page each time she goes to the admin url, with or without the secret url parameter.

She's using Firefox 13.0.1 browser, also tried it in Safari.

Hm, let's try a few things again to be perfectly sure.

Go to Admin Tools, Web Application Firewall, Security Exceptions Log and make sure that your client's IP does not appear anywhere.

Go to Admin Tools, Web Application Firewall, Auto IP Blocking Administration and make sure that your client's IP does not appear anywhere.

Have your client clear the browser cache of Firefox and Safari. Then have them quit (using CMD-Q) the browser and restart it. This is mandatory! Browsers nowadays tend to remember URL redirections causing all sorts of interesting problems.

Make sure they visit the URL http://www.example.com/administrator/index.php?secret where www.example.com is their domain name and secret is their secret word.

If this still doesn't help please check that the secret key consists only of lowercase unaccented letters and numbers (a-z, 0-9).

Waiting on client response to make sure she's given me the correct IP's. I had checked, and double-checked, the ones she gave me. She's working from two different locations.

Mystery solved. She gave me two ip's but neither was the one she was currently using. I don't know if her ip changed or whether she just gave me the wrong ones.

She's back in and all is well. Sorry to trouble you.
