Description of my issue:
I receive the error message


Unable to open archive
Extracting the update package failed. Please try updating the extension manually.

I know how that sounds, but I really have to ask. Did you try a manual update? A manual update means that you download the latest version's installation ZIP file and you install it through your site's Extension Manager without uninstalling your current version.

I feel really stupid reading my post I see that I did not describe the proble at all.

I received notification (via my email) that there was an updated version for Admin Tools and clicked on the link to automatically launch the update and received a error message saying that I needed to enter my Akeeba ID. I did this and then clicked on the link in the email to update automatically and received the message listed in my first post i.e.
"Unable to open archive

Extracting the update package failed. Please try updating the extension manually."

Ah, right. THe first time you enter your Download ID you have to manually refresh the update information before you run the update. If you're unsure, please follow all of the steps outlined in the instructions page, especially the last two paragraphs.
