Description of my issue:

Simple questions:

1) I do not see where to put the download ID, tell me where exactly- using the latest version of Admin Tools Pro with Joomla 2.5

2) Once I install, is the firewall activated? Anything else I need to do?

Thank you

Hello! These are very valid questions and very common, too. They are already answered in the documentation. Let me guide you through it.

1. I would recommend referring to our Instructions page. I have written step by step instructions about Admin Tools' Download ID to answer this very common question. The instructions are personalised (at some point we give you your personal Download ID, different for each user). For this reason you must log in before accessing that page.

2. Straight out of the box you only have the very basic firewall settings enabled. These are the bare minimum and need tweaking before you can confidently say that your site is protected adequately. Don't panic, I am a documentation freak :) I have written up a step-by-step Quick Setup guide to help you with that.

Thanks for the excellent support! I followed all the steps. On the last step htaccess, I clicked 'Save and create' and the 500 error came up. However, I refreshed the page and Im now fully able to access the page. I checked the htaccess file via c panel and it now containts the following:

### ===========================================================================
### Security Enhanced & Highly Optimized .htaccess File for Joomla!
### automatically generated by Admin Tools 2.2.9 on 2012-07-14 18:59:56 GMT
### Auto-detected Apache version: 2.0 (best guess)
### ===========================================================================

etc etc

Do I need to proceed with the other steps of deleting the file and renaming etc? Or can I stop here?

It is normal that the first time you try to create a new .htaccess file with the .htaccess Maker you'll run into problems. Guess what? I've documented the troubleshooting steps :) Just follow these instructions. It takes some trial and error (about 30 minutes work in the worst case scenario). The good news is that once you find which settings work on one site you can apply them on all sites hosted on the same server.

Did you actually read my question? I said I have full access to the site, the error only came up once...do I still need to follow those steps of renaming the file?

I did read your post. And I do know that 500 errors do not disappear just like that. If you received a 500 error coming from the server (not Joomla!) you need to follow those steps. If, however, you got a Joomla! error page stating a 500 error you don't need to do anything. Yes, I know, that sounds confusing. Imagine what it is like on this end, when I don't see your computer screen and I have to guess which one of the two error pages you see. Guesswork is guesswork. Don't expect me to be infallible when guessing and don't snap at me for erroneous guessing. If you don't want me to guess please provide screenshots of the error pages.

Okay, well I'm actively making other changes to the site now...I have both back and front end access...I just saw 500 error and then refreshed the page...and the htaccess file seems updated. So I'm not sure...

I guess that it was a Joomla! error page, in which case you don't have to do anything else.
