Description of my issue:

Hi Nikko!

Here is a heads up: Firefox 13 ("release edition" (Is that a Beta?)blocks Admin Tools pre login screen so you get the main login screen but nothing happens.

I have spent most of the day on this. This morning the public side of my sight was available and I could even log in in the front end. But I couldn't log into the back end.

I didn't realize at first what the problem was. First I tried turning off the admin tools plug in. Then I deleted the .htaccess file. Nothing worked. So I went to the host's vault and did a restore from last night. Nothing helped. I was composing a plea for help from the Host when I realized that the extra security of the pre login screen wasn't appearing.

I also noticed my email was acting up a bit. On a hunch, I reinstalled Firefox 12 and Voila! Everything normal.

So, be careful out there. And don't get on the Firefox automatic update release list unless you have the leisure to play with it!

Best,

Lowtech

I don't know what a "pre-login screen" is supposed to mean. Maybe you mean the administrator password protection? That's plain and simple HTTP Basic Authentication. If Firefox 13 fails to work with it, please file a bug with Firefox. I will update my documentation to indicate that I no longer support Firefox. This browser has turned into a piece of utter crap. I can't support a broken browser anymore.

Thanks, Nikko!

Yes, I meant the administrator password protection.

Do you prefer Internet Explorer or Google or something else or are they all OK except Firefox?

Why don't you tell us what you really think about Firefox? :)

I will file a bug report with Firefox.

Best,

Lowtech

Firefox has been in a downward quality spiral since version 4. Each new "stable" version, released every 6 weeks, has numerous bugs in various areas of the browser. There is no point in me trying to work around this crap. The next version of Firefox fixes the existing bugs and introduces new ones. IMHO, Firefox is a royal piece of crap. I recommend using Google Chrome, Safari or Internet Explorer 9+. Any of those browsers are decent (and so came the day where the unthinkable happened: I recommend IE instead of FF). I've not tried Opera a lot but let's face it: Opera is about 1% of the web's users, it's hardly a priority for any web developer.
