Description of my issue:
Like others I have had a few problems updateing to Joomla 2.5.5, just recived this replay from the Joomla support problems:
======================================
Please do not try to update at the moment.
•Issues have been identified in the latest 2.5.5 update patch and files.
•These will hopefully be resolved very quickly and developers are currently working to this end.
•Keep an eye on (or preferably subscribe to) the Announcements Forum for further details.

15:49 (GMT +1) Update to this is that developers are working hard on a 2.5.6 release for today 19 June 2012 to correct the issues.

Hi John,

I believe I was the first developer to warn about these issues: https://www.akeebabackup.com/home/news/55-general/1482-known-issues-with-j-2-5-5.html

Since this announcement the Joomla! project identified two more major and two minor issues affecting 2.5.5. We're all waiting for a new release.

Know you would be on the ball Nicholas. While I have your attention what are you using on your site that displays the banner for the new EU cookie laws? I have tried a few both free and purchased but none works the way I want. Sorry if this is off topic but I did not know any other way of contacting you about it, am sure others will be interested anyway.

I'm using Herdboy's Cookie Monster for the EU cookie law compliance. It turns out, though, that if you have a privacy policy which details the cookies used you already comply with the EU cookie laws as you have the user's implied consent.
